Military Medicine OPERATION: PERIL "Mauling Medic"

If You're a Combat Medic...

...what do you do when a wounded enemy wants you to treat them?
Note: May be NSFW due to racist language common to the time period.
This never-reprinted Korean War tale from ACG's Operation: Peril #15 (1953) by editor/writer Richard Hughes, penciler Dick Beck, and inker Leo Morey shows the American medic does treat the Communist Chinese wounded...by taking them as prisoners back to his HQ, with as much medical supplies as he can steal!
I leave it to you to judge the levels of compassion and self-serving hypocrisy in the story.

LOVELORN "Helping Heart!"

Just when you thought they couldn't do anything else with a disease-themed romance tale...
...involving a doctor and nurse, this never-reprinted story from ACG's LoveLorn #3 (1949-50) comes along with a tale jam-packed with unexpected soap opera-style plot-twists!
Wow!
I'm exhausted!
So, jaded, manipulative girl loses handsome doctor to woman whose inherent innocence and purity of heart (and extreme work ethic) lures the MD to her...and she didn't even intend to do so!

ADVENTURES INTO THE UNKNOWN "Higher Power!"

As we enter the Christmas season, we often ask "when science fails, can faith find a way?"
Perhaps this short. from ACG's Adventures into the Unknown #91 (1957) holds the answer!
Did writer/editor Richard E Hughes and artist Ogden Whitney base this tale on an oft-heard urban legend?
Oddly, when the story was reprinted in ACG's Unknown Worlds #18 (1962), it was retitled...
...and nobody can recall why!

CoronaVirus Comics FORBIDDEN WORLDS "Alien Germs!"

By the late 1950s, we were so confident in advances in medicine...
...that the only way we'd face a catastrophic pandemic was if it was of alien (that's extraterrestrial, not illegal) origin!
Wow!
Is there nothing science (with assistance from alien tech) can't solve?
According to this story from ACG's Forbidden Worlds #71 (1958) by writer/editor Richard Hughes and artist John Rosenberger the answer was clearly "NO"!
Interestingly, when the story was reprinted in ACG's Adventures into the Unknown #166 (1966), only two things were altered...both on the title page...
See the diifferences?
The title has been altered and the extremely-optimistic opening blurb about mankind's almost-miraculous medical acumen was deleted!
Was it simply because, in the mid-1960s, we were no longer totally-trusting about our government and other authority figures?
Or was it...dare I say it...a conspiracy?

Halloween Hospital Horrors ADVENTURES INTO THE UNKNOWN "Man Who Met His Own Ghost"

Here's a guy who can truly say he's "beside himself"...
...due to something that happens a lot more than you think...actually "dying", then being resurrected!
Written by editor Richard E Hughes and illustrated by Al Camy, this never-reprinted tale from ACG's Adventures into the Unknown #20 (1951) posits a fascinating question...if there are ghosts, when does one form...at the moment of death or some point afterwards?
And what happens if you experience "death" more than once?
