America Just Regressed over a CENTURY...

As I was prepping this week's post...

...the decision to overturn Roe Vs Wade was announced.
I don't have the time to prep and post excerpts from either the above comic from 1973, nor this one from 2013...
...but, I'll be devoting several posts next week to excerpts from them both!

GET LOST "Dr Jerkyll Became Mr Hide"

It's more "inspired" by the Robert Louis Stevenson tale than an adaptation...

...since it's set "present day" (1950s) and the dear doctor is a psychiatrist!
MikeRoss' Get Lost was one of numerous MAD comic clones that popped up in the mid-1950s when that humor comic became one of the hottest titles on the market...literally flying off newsstands!
The company, created by writer/artists Mike Esposito and Ross Andru (the "MikeRoss" of the company name) was meant to be a showcase for their talents.
They edited, wrote, and illustrated almost all the material, including this tale from #1 (1954).
Unfortunately, they debuted just as the legendary "Seduction of the Innocent" scandal (where comics were blamed for juvenile delinquency) hit the public consciousness!
Though all MikeRoss published were Get Lost, Heart and Soul (a romance comic) and a couple of 3-D books using modified Heart and Soul artwork, the company never really got off the ground as distributors became leery of handling any comics, much less titles from a brand-new company!
MikeRoss folded within a year, and the creators returned to working for others, enjoying long careers in the comics business until they passed away!

CoronaVirus Comics FORBIDDEN WORLDS "Alien Germs!"

By the late 1950s, we were so confident in advances in medicine...
...that the only way we'd face a catastrophic pandemic was if it was of alien (that's extraterrestrial, not illegal) origin!
Wow!
Is there nothing science (with assistance from alien tech) can't solve?
According to this story from ACG's Forbidden Worlds #71 (1958) by writer/editor Richard Hughes and artist John Rosenberger the answer was clearly "NO"!
Interestingly, when the story was reprinted in ACG's Adventures into the Unknown #166 (1966), only two things were altered...both on the title page...
See the diifferences?
The title has been altered and the extremely-optimistic opening blurb about mankind's almost-miraculous medical acumen was deleted!
Was it simply because, in the mid-1960s, we were no longer totally-trusting about our government and other authority figures?
Or was it...dare I say it...a conspiracy?

Young Love PRIVATE DIARY OF MARY ROBIN, R.N. "Shadow of Love" Conclusion

When Last We Left the Stalker, aka Mary Robin...
...she was recalling her childhood infatuation with Danny Malcolm, an older boy...which continued though high school and college...

I'm not even going to try to get into the psychology of this tale from DC's Young Love #43 (1964) by writer Robert Kanigher and artist John Romita.
