Its' the Day After Christmas...

...and I'm too full of spiked eggnog to do a new post, so here's a re-presentation of our first Christmas post from 2020!

This never-reprinted tale from Charlton's Young Doctors #6 (1963) unfortunately shows off the terrible printing Charlton Comics was famous for.

The publisher didn't utilize the printing companies literally every other comics publisher used.

Instead, to save money, they printed on old, second-hand presses.

But these presses had been constructed to handle cardboard and plastic packaging, not the much-thinner paper used for comics!

As a result, their comics had an amazing amount of smearing and off-register color, as you can see from the first page.

It's a shame, because the art by penciler Joe Sinnott and inker Vince Colletta deserves a better presentation!

BTW, Young Doctors was an anthology title featuring tales of all the MDs who had their own Charlton books, including, of course, Dr Tom Brent, Young Intern!

...the teenage member of the tiny humans, Barry, is ill and their first aid antibiotics have had no effect on the disease.

 Captain Steve Burton and engineer/businessman passenger Mark Wilson find giant MD Doctor Rains and hope to force him to treat Barry....

Written by Dick Wood, penciled by Ted Galindo, and inked by Tom Gill, this was the final issue of the series, published just as the second (and final) season of the show began airing.

The five comics, the five prose novels, and the fifty-one episode TV series ever showed the cosmic castaways returning home...

LAND OF THE GIANTS "Operation Mini-Surgeon" Part 1 Doctor's Dilemma

 In 1968-70, when the TV series this comic is based on ran on ABC...

...microsurgery, as we know it today, was in its' infancy!

To be Concluded Next Friday!

The 1968-70 series, created by Irwin Allen (Lost in Space/Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea/Time Tunnel) was set in 1983, when sub-orbital shuttles would be used for trans-Atlantic travel...

Trivia: the trailer narrator was William Woodson, who usually voiced intros and title sequences for Quinn Martin TV series like 12 O'Clock High, The FBI, and The Invaders!

This tale from Gold Key's Land of the Giants #5 (1969) was scripted by Dick Wood, penciled by Ted Galindo, and inked by Tom Gill, and followed the TV series bible (which detailed the premise and characters) pretty closely.
Sadly, it was also the final issue, and it was cancelled before the second (and last) season of the show aired!

Best of Medical Comics & Stories DR PAT: The First Female Doctor to Have Her Own Comic Series!

Debuting in DC's Sensation Comics #94 (1949)...

...Dr Pat was a radical concept for the era, an independent female doctor equal to any male MD, and not obsessed with romance!

In fact, romance was usually the last thing on her mind!

She was too busy battling crime...

...Commies...

...even rampaging robots!

And when she did get involved in romantic situations, it was usually to assist someone else!

Created as part of the rebooting of Wonder Woman's original home, Sensation Comics into an all-female series book!
She lasted longer than any of the other secondary features including Romance: Inc, Headline Heroines, Astra: Girl of the Future, and Beautiful, But Not Dumb!, 
When Sensation Comics was rebooted again, this time with an entirely-new line-up in #107 (1952), Dr Pat and Wonder Woman both lost their strips...though Princess Diana continued in her own book!
Except for a couple of reprints in the back of Superman's Girl Friend: Lois Lane, almost the entire comics world forgot all about Dr Pat!
But we didn't!
In fact, she was our very first post, and our first ongoing series!
So, when you have a moment, check her her out!

She's a bit of comics history who doesn't deserve to be forgotten!

DOCTOR DAN DAZZLER "I Can't Breathe"

Here's Dr Dazzler's Final Improvised Medical Miracle...

...illustrated by returning artist Gene Colan!


It's odd that this never-reprinted story from Dell's Ben Casey #8 (1963-4) and the previous Dr Dan Dazzler tale illustrated by Gene Colan (shown HERE) feature the same basic plot...Dr Dan desperately needs rest, but circumstances keep him on his feet, heloping people!
