But she's actually spending the weekend with rich Dr Mayne...who lusts after her!

And now, because we don't want you to have to wait another week...

A Hospitalized Actress' Flirtations are Rejected by Dr Blasko!

And when the actress' significant other (who's also her co-star in a currently-running play) shows up, and flirts with Nurse Linda Lark, the actress dumps him and plots revenge against Lark...who's currently dating Dr Blasko!

The actress, Joyce Wilson, sends two tickets for tonight's performance of her play to Lark (whose date that night with Blasko is mysteriously cancelled)!

These events are all linked, as we shall soon see...

So Linda's not going home to Mommy!

She's going somewhere with rich physician Dr Mayne, who sees an opporutinity to lure her away from Dr Blasko!

Can this get any more soap opera-ish?

We're returning to the story of Nurse Linda Lark...

...noting that, in the space of a single issue, she's gone from student nurse to registered nurse!

This never-reprinted issue of Dell's Linda Lark: Registered Nurse #2 (1962), scripted and laid-out by John Stanley and penciled/inked by John Tartaglione is actually a soap opera-esque storyline spread over four chapters!
So, instead of spreading it out over several months, we're going to run it in weekly installments!
What we'll do with the remaining issues, which follow this format is yet to be decided...

TRAMP DOCTOR "vs Witch Doctor"

This atypical tale from Dell's Linda Lark: Registered Nurse #5 (1962) may be NSFW...

...due to the stereotypes of Pacific Islanders and "witch doctors".

You'll note in the final panel, there's a body on the ground, indicating Amok ingested some of the poisoned food he had given to Dr McCutchin, and he's either dead or dying.

It's odd that an island within swimming distance of a port still doesn't have even the basics of relatively-modern life, or even radio communication with the "outside world".
Isn't there some sort of regional government for the island group?
But, when the plot calls for it...I guess a lot of logical plot points are disregarded...

Dr Ivar McCutchin faces his first crisis as a recovering alcoholic...

...and fails (a too-common occurrence in real-life)!

This never-reprinted tale from Dell's Linda Lark: Registered Nurse #3 (1962) featured both alcoholism and addictive narcotics, both of which were forbidden in newsstand comics after the Comics Code Authority was organized as a self-censorship board by the major comics publishers in 1954.

Dell, however, was not a member of that organization, since they had never published the type of horror comics that drew the public's ire!

As a result, they were able to handle topics like addiction, interracial romances, etc, that the "Big Guns" (DC/Atlas-Marvel/Harvey/etc.) didn't dare touch!

TRAMP DOCTOR "Stranded on Gorbu"

This never-reprinted series was one of the most unusual medical comic strips...

...since it involved, among other things, alcoholism and interracial romantic relationships!

The only way Dell got away with some of the themes of this strip was that they weren't a participant the the Comics Code Authority, which forbade showing such things until their first major revision in 1971!

This tale from Dell's Linda Lark Registered Nurse #2 (1962) was illustrated by John Tartaglione, who also drew the book's main strip, Linda Lark!

Though best-known as an inker on a number of Marvel's Silver Age books, including The X-Men, Tartaglione was a decent, though slow, penciler, which he did for both Dell and George A Pflaum's Treasure Chest.

He also pencilled Marvel's occasional religious-themed comics, including Life of Pope John Paul II!

Dr McCutchin's saga continued until the cancellation of the book with #8.

You'll be seeing the rest of the tales once a month since this series replaces Dr Pat (which ends next month) as our ongoing feature!
